一、Purpose

Rock point load tester is a testing instrument used for rock point load test and determination of rock point load strength index. According to the point load strength index of the rock, the uniaxial compressive strength of the rock can be calculated and determined, the anisotropy of the rock (that is, the ratio of the maximum and minimum load strength at different points) can be determined, the weathering zone can be determined, and the rock drilling speed can be estimated. The rocks are graded and so on.

The rock point load tester is a test instrument suitable for use on the construction site. Point load testing has lower requirements for the preparation of rock samples, which can be core samples for engineering exploration, or irregular samples with a little trim. The sample preparation does not require special mechanical processing. Compared with the conventional test, it has the characteristics of fast test speed, short test period, simple method and low cost. It can be widely used in field tests of construction projects such as geology, mining, hydropower, railway and transportation. The rock point load test was officially listed as one of the methods for determining rock strength by the Test Method Committee of the International Society of Rock Mechanics in 1972, and the method was revised in 1985 by the Test Method Committee of the International Society of Rock Mechanics. Rock point load strength has been widely used in my country’s national standards and many departmental codes.
